Dall Sheep hunts

Our sheep hunts are in a nearly inaccessible area of the interior where we have hunted for over 35 years. It is very mountainous with a fair population of sheep, they run a natural cycle of ups and down in relation to weather and predatory conditions, to date we have seen no other hunters within this area so hunting pressure is very small. The rams our clients take average a great deal larger than the average taken from more easily accessible areas.

Good Physical conditioning is fairly important, the better shape a person is in the hunt can be enjoyed more and may have some relationship with success. Foot wear is very important. We recommend mountaineering boots made by Koflach, raincoat & pants, gaiters and rain hat. Backpack, sleeping bag & pad and clothing appropriate for mountain hunting, these are the most important and most needed in top quality of any other gear. High quality full size binoculars are also needed. They should be in the 9x35, 10x40 size range, The mini or pocket size are next to worthless, on the other side of the fence the really big ones are to heavy when climbing in sheep country.

As for rifles, about any thing that you can shoot well will be ok. The average range is usually around 200 yards. Sheep are not hard to kill, like Mountain Goat and bear so any deer rifle will do.
